Chait tube caecostomy is an alternative for patients who are high surgical risks. This permits both decompression for the bloated colon (megacolon) and also allows for washout of the colon with water and antegrade enemas. It involves an appendix-like incision, in which the appendix (if not already removed) is removed, and a Chait tube is purse stringed into the caecum through the appendiceal stump.
